Emmicki Roos - Executive Director

Emmicki Roos is the Executive Director for 1325 Policy Group and has dedicated her career to working for the realization of the Women, Peace, and Security agenda. Most recently, her focus has been on the development and implementation of national action plans (NAPs), the integration of gender perspectives in security sector reform, and women’s inclusion in peace processes. This includes advising governments in Afghanistan, Serbia, Jordan, Finland, and Indonesia on their NAPs on WPS on behalf of UN Women and the Institute for Inclusive Security; research on security sector reform and gender in South Sudan; technical support to women’s organizations in Libya, Sudan, South Sudan, Georgia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan; and supporting UN Women’s work on Women, Peace, and Security in Myanmar. Educated at Concordia University in Canada and Utrecht University in the Netherlands, Emmicki has lived and worked in Kenya, the United Kingdom, Canada, Afghanistan, the Netherlands, and Sweden. Current associations include NATO’s Civil Society Advisory Panel on Women, Peace, and Security (core member), University of Leicester’s Security, Conflict, and International Development (SCID) Panel of Experts (member) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Working Group for Sweden’s National Action Plan (member). Emmicki is based in Stockholm and is currently supporting UN Women’s work on Women, Peace, and Security in Ukraine.

Valter Vilkko – Advocacy and Communications Advisor

Valter Vilkko  works in a supporting role as 1325 Policy Group’s Advisor on Advocacy and Communications. In his other current position he works with UNSCR 1325 and gender with the Swedish Armed Forces. His academic background is in Peace and Conflict Studies and Journalism. Most recently, Valter worked at Operation 1325 as Communications Officer. He also has  experience from the Life & Peace Institute (LPI) in Uppsala, Sweden. There, he worked with advocacy and LPI’s Sudan programme. Valter’s field experience includes work in Sudan, South Sudan, and Kenya.
