We at 1325 Policy Group are proud to launch our website 1325policygroup.org. 1325 Policy Group was founded by a committed group of members in December 2013, many who have extensive experience of working with the women, peace, and security agenda in Sweden and internationally.
The organization is the result of the realization that the structure and leadership of a non-governmental organization working for social change is as important as the issues and projects itself. Like Gandhi so famously said: “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” Only when we are living our lives with integrity and in the true spirit of the change we are trying to accomplish, are we true to the cause and closer to the finishing line.
1325 Policy Group is founded on values of integrity, inclusivity, strong local ownership, and transparency. We believe that UNSCR 1325 implementation is dependent on strong alliances with others, both civil society, academia, international organizations, and governments etc.. Fragmented we are weak, together we are strong. Actors working for change are all too often divided by prestige and competition over funding, which gets in the way of what it is all about; peace and security on equal terms.
UNSCR 1325 will not be implemented by one organization or agency, we need to have an inclusive and transparent approach were we share ideas and strengthen one another. This includes involving men and encouraging them to join the ranks. We always say that peace and security can not be accomplished without half the worlds population, the same goes for gender equality.
It is in this spirit we take our first steps as an organization. We are excited to see what 2014 have in store and work in partnership with others on all levels to strengthen the implementation of the women, peace, and security agenda globally.
